Decisions... Decisions

I've been too sick to work out this week, so when arose early this morning, I had a different plan. But which sewing project to tackle first? After a brief moment of thought, I think I chose wisely. I cut out the pieces for this Amy Butler Birdie Sling several weeks ago, but found that I didn't have all that I needed to put it together at the time. Well, today was the day to put it together, and boy am I glad I did!

Initially, I had planned for this bag to be mine; but as time passed, I started to think that it should be up for grabs. Today I came to my senses, with the help of my sweet friend who figured out a guilt-free way of keeping it for myself. Once the decision was made, I was looking for places to carry it, and therefore stayed out a bit longer running extra errands, just to show it off. (I'm vain. Forgive me.)

I'm blessed with my fair pick of beautiful models in my home. Morgan helped me out today. And I must say that her outfit formed the perfect backdrop for the bag, don't you think?

In other sewing news this week, I made another fabric basket. These are just so fun and easy to make. If you haven't visited Ayumi, you simply must. She's adorable, and her projects are super cute. I wasn't too sure about using this denim, but it was a big hit with our children. Each of them gave favorable remarks, unsolicited, so I guess it was a good thing.

A couple of mornings ago, at the peak of my sickness, I decided to assemble a line-up of these tissue pouches. Easy stuff, and very practical -- a winning combination. Check out the tutorial here, and spend some time on Cindy's blog. She has some really fantastic tutorials.

When I first started making these last year, I was curious to know how long it takes, from start to finish, to make one. So, I had one of the children time me. It took just under six minutes. A year later, I've established some muscle memory. I should have someone time me again. I had already made one on Tuesday, so on Wednesday I made a line-up of thirteen more -- and that was before breakfast! (I should add that I had cut them in advance and finished step one for each on Tuesday.)

It's time, once again, to go and see what the others have been up to this week on Amy's Sew & Tell. Go and take a look, and be sure to congratulate her on the new baby, if you haven't done so already!

  6. Your new bag is gorgeous--as is your model, Morgan. :-) I'm glad you decided to keep it. Sometimes the seamstress must keep something for herself.

Thanks for the fabric basket link. I'm going to check it out.

  7. Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments. Sew & Tell Fridays are such fun, and I'm enjoying getting to know all of you. I can't help but think that I'm out of my league, as all of you seem to have expertise that I can't possibly match. It's still fun, though, and very motivating.

By the way, a fabric basket takes about 20 minutes or so, once you get the hang of it.

I did set my face like a flint this morning until the bag was done. I realized at one point that I'd need to eat breakfast eventually, so I quickly cut an apple and set it beside my sewing machine so that I'd finish the bag before taking the children out to lunch.

    See you all next week!

  9. you are quick like a bunny Dayna! I agree, Morgan is the perfect model (and that's the perfect outfit for modelling the birdie sling!) I'm glad you're feeling better and I'm amazed at how productive you can be when you're ill! You totally rock Dayna!
Ok, so now tell me the story of why you're no longer posting at cedars of lebanon and you're here? BTW, I like the format for leaving comments better here, it's faster than cedars was :)
